SNOWING IN BALI

Rodrigo Gularte

The body of Brazilian Rodrigo Gularte was flown home just over three months after Marco's ashes.

There were 101 days between the two compatriots' executions.

On the night of his death, Rodrigo was taken from his cell and driven to the execution site just before midnight. Unlike January, the scene was set for the prisoners to be shot side by side - the crosses erected about four meters apart.

There were eight condemned men including the two Australians, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran. Each was tied on their cross, their arms outstretched. None wore blindfolds - choosing instead to stare at the executioners; a final act of defiance the media called it. Led by the two Australians, the eight men sang hymns until the crack of gunfire silenced them forever.

Rodrigo's lawyers had been fighting for a stay of execution on the grounds that he had been diagnosed schizophrenic. But this was rejected outright by Indonesian Attorney General Mr. Prasetyo -

According to testimonies from fellow inmates and doctors, Rodrigo is not sick at all. This means there's nothing stopping us from executing him.

The Attorney General said all eight men were executed simultaneously at 12:35 local time.

'The executions have been successfully implemented, perfectly,' he told journalists. 'All worked, no misses.'

The men were declared dead three minutes after being shot.
